MōDALA Thangka

Focusing on the natural beauty of raw hemp fibre, MōDALA Thankga echoes the Nepalese enlightenment art Thangka, inspired by its multi-layered connotations of meditation and wisdom.

Proportions, established through centuries of iconography, are integral to Thankga’s depiction of Buddhist deities. Often referred to as‘the road map to enlightenment’Thangka artworks are messages with many moving parts; they are physical depictions of the religious stories of deity’s lives and their lessons.

The lines within MōDALA Thankga are a reference to the grid practice used within the artform. They look to create an intriguing contrast on a backdrop of organic, fluid elements that depict the rough brush strokes often found at the edges of Thangka art. They are the mindless flickers of a detailed and considered process.
